PARIS (Reuters) - French state-controlled utility EDF said on Wednesday it had informed the country's ASN nuclear regulator that pumping station pipes at 20 nuclear reactors were not resistant enough in the case of an earthquake, posing flooding risks.

The utility classified the incident as a 'level 2' incident out of 7, on the international nuclear and radiological event scale (INES).

"Extensive investigations revealed metallic thicknesses on certain sections of the pipes that cannot guarantee their robustness in the event of a reference earthquake," EDF said in a note.
