(Reuters) - A U.S. judge on Wednesday halted parts of a Texas law intended to aid federal immigration enforcement by punishing so-called "sanctuary cities" two days before it was to have taken effect.

Chief U.S. District Judge Orlando Garcia in San Antonio's federal court found the Texas measure was unlikely to withstand constitutional scrutiny.
