(Reuters) - Harvey, formerly a tropical depression, has strengthened into a tropical storm over the Gulf of Mexico, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said early on Thursday.

The storm is now packing maximum winds of about 40 miles per hour (65 km/h) and is about 440 miles (705 km) south-east of Port Mansfield, Texas, the NHC said.
