FREEBURN, Ky. (AP) — A Kentucky county has pledged to support a family's reunion with its ancestors after their graves were paved over with a road.
Pike County Road Commissioner Jacky Smith told WYMT-TV his department will do whatever it takes to help the Wolford family feel at peace. He learned through social media that Pounding Mill Road had paved over the Green Wolford Cemetery in Freeburn nearly 40 years ago.
Brandon Wolford said his family started the cemetery in the early 1900s. He took it upon himself to exhume one body from the shoulder of the road. He hopes to retrieve six more. Smith said they'll remove the payment and relocate the graves to a place where the family can gather respectfully.
