AMES, Iowa (AP) — The commanding officer of a military training program at Iowa State University has cancelled an annual dinner after news broke that male cadets had taken and posted explicit photographs on Facebook.
Capt. Scott Curtis told members of the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps in a Friday email that he was calling off Saturday's "Dining In" event to protect their reputation "to the maximum extent possible given the current media situation."
He called the decision unfortunate and warned that students would likely not be refunded the full cost of tickets they bought for the dinner.
A Navy spokesman says the seven male cadets involved were "willing participants" in inappropriate behavior around campus and online.
