GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. (AP) — A group that wants to save the 19th century church in Massachusetts where W.E.B. Du Bois once attended services has reached its fundraising goal.
The Berkshire Eagle (http://bit.ly/2o1Y5Pi ) reports that $100,000 was raised toward the purchase of the Clinton A.M.E. Zion Church in Great Barrington, where Du Bois was born.
The scholar and co-founder of the NAACP was a member of the church congregation.
The Clinton Church Restoration wants to buy the 1857 church that the group says has fallen into disrepair in recent years following the death of the Rev. Esther Dozier in 2007.
