Markets Right Now: Stocks close lower on Wall Street

NEW YORK (AP) — The latest on developments in global financial markets (all times local):

Stocks are closing lower on Wall Street after several companies issued disappointing results and forecasts.

Athletic apparel maker Under Armour sank 13 percent Tuesday as investors worried that its growth is slowing down. Appliance maker Whirlpool dropped 11 percent after its own results came up short of forecasts.

Sherwin-Williams, which makes paints and coatings, plunged 11 percent after cutting its full-year forecast because of slower sales growth and higher spending on new stores.

The Dow Jones industrial average fell 54 points, or 0.3 percent, to 18,169.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index lost 8 points, or 0.4 percent, to 2,143. The Nasdaq composite declined 26 points, or 0.5 percent, to 5,283.

Bond prices rose. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note fell to 1.76 percent.

Bond prices rose. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note fell to 1.75 percent.
