Stocks are opening slightly lower on Wall Street as the market gives back some of its gain from the day before.
Materials and health care stocks fell the most in morning trading Tuesday.
Genetics research company Illumina dropped 24 percent after announcing third quarter revenue that was below what analysts were looking for.
Apple rose again after rival Samsung announced it was discontinuing its Galaxy Note 7 phone, which competed with Apple's iPhone. Apple rose 2 percent.
The Dow Jones industrial average fell 71 points, or 0.4 percent, to 18,258.
The Standard & Poor's 500 index lost 8 points, or 0.4 percent, to 2,154. The Nasdaq composite fell 15 points, or 0.3 percent, to 5,312.
Bond prices fell. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note rose to 1.77 percent.
