NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks posted solid gains on Thursday as investors, comfortable that the Federal Reserve will keep interest rates low, bought up stocks that pay big dividends.
The Dow Jones industrial average gained 98.76 points, or 0.5 percent, to 18,392.46.
The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 14.06 points, or 0.7 percent, to 2,177.18.
The Nasdaq composite added 44.34 points, or 0.8 percent, to a record 5,339.52.
For the week:
The Dow is up 268.66 points, or 1.5 percent.
The S&P 500 is up 38.02 points, or 1.8 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 94.96 points, or 1.8 percent.
For the year:
The Dow is up 967.43 points, or 5.6 percent.
The S&P 500 is up 133.24 points, or 6.5 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 332.11 points, or 6.6 percent.
