In this photo by Mukhtar Khan, neighbors and relatives of Irfan Ahmed Wani, who died late Sunday after being hit by a tear gas shell, shout anti-India slogans as they protest his death in Srinagar, Indian-controlled Kashmir. A security lockdown and protests continued for a 45th day Monday with tens of thousands of Indian armed police and paramilitary soldiers patrolling the tense region enduring its largest protests against Indian rule in recent years. At least 65 civilians have been killed and thousands injured, mostly by government forces firing bullets and shotgun pellets at rock-throwing protesters. Two policemen have been killed and hundreds of government forces have been injured in the clashes, which were set off by the killing of a popular rebel commander on July 8.
