ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (AP) — A Maryland woman faces criminal charges for allegedly stealing from a restaurant that had been damaged in a recent flood.
Media outlets quote Howard County police as saying Madeline Eve Scott of Ellicott City was arrested Wednesday on assault, burglary, and theft charges.
Portalli's Restaurant owner Evan Brown told police he found a woman walking out of his business when he arrived to assess the damage Sunday afternoon. Brown said she was carrying four bottles of liquor.
When he confronted the woman, Brown says she hurled one of the bottles at him.
An attorney for Scott was not listed in online court records and could not be reached to comment on the charges.
The picturesque Ellicott City sustained major damage after heavy rain sparked flooding last Saturday.
