LA CANADA FLINTRIDGE, Calif. (AP) — The California Highway Patrol says speed may have been a factor in the death of three people whose pickup truck plunged off a mountain north of Los Angeles.

The truck found Monday 15 miles north of La Canada Flintridge belonged to 19-year-old Daniel Gamboa — one of three Fontana teens who vanished Saturday on their way to hike in Angeles National Forest.

The truck was found about 900 feet below Angeles Crest Highway.

Authorities are trying to determine whether bodies recovered Tuesday are those of Gamboa, 18-year-old Kasey Vance and 17-year-old Samantha Ornelas.

The CHP says skid marks appear to show that the truck braked while making a curve and went over the side.

Officer Ryan Bejar tells the Los Angeles Times (http://lat.ms/2b0XBAd ) that speed may have been a factor.
