PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — A Maine teenager who was recommended for a prestigious athletic award after being accused of sexually assaulting two children has pleaded guilty.

The Portland Press Herald ( ) reports that 19-year-old Tyrell Gullatt was sentenced Monday in a Portland juvenile court to two years of probation. The charges were reduced as part of the plea deal to felony counts of unlawful sexual contact of a minor.

The former Windham High School football player was charged in November. Police say they notified school administrators of the accusations.

A few weeks later, school officials recommended Gullatt for the Frank J. Gaziano Offensive and Defensive Lineman Awards, presented to linemen who are considered positive role models.
