MECHANICSVILLE, Va. (AP) — Officials are identifying a man whose body was found inside a burning car at a gas station in Virginia.

The Hanover County sheriff's office said in a statement Tuesday that a deputy spotted a car on fire at a BP gas station in Mechanicsville about 11 p.m. Monday. Crews quickly extinguished the fire and found a body in the back seat.

The sheriff's office identified the man found dead in the car as 37-year-old Zaheer Mazhar of Richmond.

The sheriff's office and county fire marshal's office are working together on a death investigation, trying to determine the circumstances surrounding the death. Sheriff's office spokesman Sgt. James Cooper says by telephone that authorities are looking at surveillance video from the gas station and surrounding businesses as part of the investigation.
