LEBANON, Maine (AP) — Rescuers have used GPS coordinates linked to a cellphone to help a skydiver who went off course during a parachute drop and landed in a swamp in Maine.

The Portland Press Herald (http://bit.ly/29PFT0m ) reports the man was reported missing Sunday night after he jumped from a plane. Fire officials in Lebanon identify him only as a 66-year-old California resident named Peter.

Skydive New England sent out a crew to look for the skydiver and called for police help after about 40 minutes as darkness descended. Fire officials say the man landed safely in a swamp near Route 202.

The fire officials say the man's general location was determined using GPS coordinates but he was unable to stay on the phone because the battery was dying.
