PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A large swath of Philadelphia is going car-free for a day in September.

Philly.com reports (http://bit.ly/29zOvs7 ) that since Pope Francis' visit shut down a chunk of the city's streets last year, a group of bicyclists and pedestrians have been pushing for more car-free days.

City officials say the first Philly Free Streets event is scheduled for Sept. 24. That Saturday, officials say they will temporarily close a portion of the city to vehicular traffic.

City spokesman Mike Dunn says the day will include events focused on fun and education programming, physical activity, history, arts, culture and sustainability.
