NEW YORK (AP) — Solid earnings reports on Thursday helped lift stocks for a fifth straight session. The gains were broad, with nine of the 10 industry sectors of the Standard and Poor's 500 index showing gains.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 134.29 points, or 0.7 percent, to 18,506.41.
The S&P 500 gained 11.32 points, or 0.5 percent, to 2,163.75.
The Nasdaq composite increased 28.33 points, or 0.6 percent, to 5,034.06.
For the week:
The Dow is up 359.67 points, or 2 percent.
The S&P 500 is up 33.85 points, or 1.6 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 77.30 points, or 1.6 percent.
For the year:
The Dow is up 1,081.38 points, or 6.2 percent.
The S&P 500 is up 119.81 points, or 5.9 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 26.65 points, or 0.5 percent.
