PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A marine unit is searching the Delaware River in Philadelphia for anyone who may have been in a minivan that plunged into the river.
Authorities are also trying to determine why the vehicle went into the water.
Police said the minivan was speeding toward the river shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday. A witness heard it go through a metal fence followed by the sound of water splashing.
Witnesses who got out of their vehicle and ran over to the water didn't see the minivan. One witness told WPVI-TV that he didn't see anyone at the water's surface.
The marine unit and a special operations fire rescue unit were called and found the minivan, which was pulled from the water at about 5 a.m. Sunday.
