CHESTERFIELD, Va. (AP) — A trial is underway for a Virginia police officer charged with murder in the off-duty shooting of an 18-year-old man at a car wash.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports (http://bit.ly/1Q2aLPr ) a 12-person jury was selected Tuesday at the Chesterfield County Circuit Court in the trial of Richmond Police Officer David Cobb.
Cobb faces a second-degree murder charge in the death of Paterson Brown Jr.
David Baugh, Cobb's attorney, told the jury that Cobb will testify and say he shot and killed Brown in self-defense.
Officials say Brown got into the officer's vehicle at the car wash and drove it out of the washing bay. They say Cobb told him to get out and later shot Brown during an altercation. Both men are black.
The trial is expected to last three days.
