OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. (AP) — Wildlife experts say an injured dolphin is stuck in a lagoon and they're looking at how to rescue it.
The Sun Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1WOWfLn ) that the dolphin has been stuck in Simmons Bayou, a freshwater lagoon, for about two weeks.
Mobi Solangi, the director of the Institute for Marine and Mammal Studies in Gulfport, is monitoring the dolphin. His institute rescues dolphins.
Solangi says the animal is in serious distress and that it's being hurt by the freshwater in the lagoon. He says the dolphin is prevented from getting out by a canal.
Melissa Scallan, a Mississippi Department of Marine Resources spokeswoman, says state and federal wildlife officials are looking at how to help the institute perform a rescue.
