CHICAGO (AP) — Chicago wants a judge to suspend a legal fight over "Star Wars" creator George Lucas' plans to build a museum at one lakefront location while the city explores an alternative site.

City attorneys requested a 30-day stay in a motion filed Monday in federal court.

Friends of the Parks sued last year to kill the plans to build the art museum near Soldier Field. The nonprofit group says the plans violated laws restricting development along Lake Michigan.

Parts of Chicago's McCormick Place convention complex now stand on the alternative location. That site also hugs the lakeside but would involve replacing existing structures, not building new ones.

Friends of the Parks attorney Thomas Geoghegan says he doesn't oppose a stay. But he wouldn't say whether the alternative location is more acceptable.
