TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — Police say a 23-year-old man was shot in the buttocks at the University of Arizona, prompting an exhaustive search after the victim left campus before help arrived.

UofA police alerted the public Wednesday of a shooting near the Thomas W. Keating Bioresearch building. Police found shell casings and small amount of blood but no victim or suspect.

A local hospital later reported that the man sought help for a gunshot wound to the buttocks. The man, who hasn't been identified, is not a student. He was released from the hospital Thursday morning.

The man told police that he'd gotten off a streetcar when three men started following him. One fired shots, striking him once. Police are searching for the suspects but say the campus is clear.
