GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) — Emergency managers in Gulfport say 5 to 12 inches of rain fell during a thunderstorm, causing major street flooding and water entered some homes.
Harrison County Emergency Management Director Rupert Lacy says the rain came down so fast Thursday morning, it had nowhere go.
The National Weather Service issued a flash warning for Harrison County which was set to expire before noon.
Police had asked residents to stay at home until the water receded.
Some schools in Gulfport delayed opening until it was safe for school buses to travel.
