VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) — A Virginia apartment complex where a Navy jet crashed four years ago will be demolished.

Multiple news outlets report that tenants at the Mayfair Mews apartment complex in Virginia Beach were notified this week that they have until July 31 to move out.

The complex was the site of a Navy jet crash April 6, 2012. The plane departed Oceana Naval Air Station before it malfunctioned and plummeted into the complex, destroying about 40 apartments. No one was killed.

Joe P. Covington, president of Covington & Associates Realtors, said in a letter addressed to tenants that the apartment owners had considered several options including renovating the site, demolishing the units or building new ones. The owners ultimately decided to demolish the units and redevelop the site.

The letter also suggested apartment listings.
