SMITHFIELD, N.C. (AP) — Police in North Carolina say they have spoken with a woman they identified as a person of interest in their investigation into the discovery of infant remains under a home.
Local media outlets say police in Smithfield provided no information on where Bridgette Morgan Smith had been or what she may have told them.
Pamela McBride has custody of two of Smith's children, and she adopted another child Smith had as a teenager. McBride said her daughter has been pregnant about 10 times that she's aware of, but has no idea of the children's whereabouts.
A search warrant said McBride's son found three plastic trash bags as he went under the house last Saturday to run some cable. Medical examiners confirmed that the bags contained the remains of two infants.
