Workers at Michigan Stellantis plant authorize strike over health, safety

The United Auto Workers union says over 1,000 workers at a Stellantis metal stamping plant in Warren, Michigan, have voted to authorize a strike over health and safety issues.

VERBATIM: No word from the union on whether a deadline had been set. However, Stellantis says talks are ongoing and workers are still on the job. The UAW says grievances have been filed about problems with ventilation fans, personal protective equipment, flooding, oil leaks and other issues. The UAW says a strike could affect production of the Ram pickup, Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Wagoneer.

Biden condemns “ferocious surge” of antisemitism, supports Israel

President Biden used a Holocaust remembrance speech to condemn the recent rise in antisemitism. With the Gaza War and college campus protests as a current backdrop, the president spoke out against, what he called, a “ferocious surge in antisemitism.” He warned that too many people are at risk of not knowing the truth about the Holocaust or the October 7th Hamas attack. The president also reiterated his unwavering support for Israel and its security.

The joint apperance also comes at a time when Johnson can benefit from a strong show of support from the former Commander in Chief. He’s facing the threat of being ousted as Speaker , an effort being lead by fellow Trump supporter , Georgia Repreentative Marjorie Taylor Green.

VERBATIM:  People of faith, that is.  Leaders of both conservative and liberal church groups are planning national get-out-the-vote campaigns heading into an election that many believe will be one of the most important in U.S. history.  The National Council of Churches, which includes most liberal denominations, has announced a “Freedom Summer” initiative.  The conservative Faith and Freedom group will spend 60 million to register voters.
