The Latest: Dr. Luke declines comment on Kesha case ruling

NEW YORK (AP) — The Latest on a ruling in a New York legal clash between pop star Kesha and producer Dr. Luke (all times local):

6:35 p.m.

Lawyers for record producer Dr. Luke are declining to comment after a New York judge dismissed pop star Kesha's human-rights and hate-crime claims that the hitmaker drugged, sexually abused and emotionally tormented her.

Kesha's lawyers haven't immediately responded to a request for comment on Wednesday's ruling.

Dr. Luke has denied the allegations.

State Supreme Court Justice Shirley Werner Kornreich said the platinum-selling singer's claims that her rights were violated happened too long ago and outside New York law's reach.

The judge also says "every rape is not a gender-motivated hate crime."

But the judge says the lawsuit can proceed on some contract issues.

The dispute has sparked protests by Kesha's fans and support from celebrities, including Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga.

The Associated Press generally doesn't identify people who say they were sexually assaulted unless they come forward publicly, as Kesha has done.

A New York judge has thrown out pop star Kesha's hate-crime and human-rights claims that producer Dr. Luke drugged, sexually abused and emotionally tormented her.

State Supreme Court Justice Shirley Werner Kornreich ruled Wednesday that those claims by the platinum-selling singer can't go forward because the alleged rape and abuse happened outside New York and beyond the legal time limit. The judge also said "every rape is not a gender-motivated hate crime."

But the judge said the lawsuit can proceed on Kesha's contract issues.

Dr. Luke has denied the allegations.

The dispute has sparked protests by Kesha's fans and support from celebrities, including Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga.
