WINDBER, Pa. (AP) — Police say a Pennsylvania man who mistakenly shot the mother of his intended victim has been arrested in Kentucky.
Cortland Michalides (my-kah-LEE'-des) has been charged with attempted homicide for allegedly shooting Theresa McDonald inside her Windber home about 2 a.m. Sunday. Police say McDonald, who is expected to survive, is the mother of the man Michalides meant to shoot, apparently because they dated the same woman.
Police say they caught up with 22-year-old Michalides near Elizabeth, Kentucky, on Sunday after his mother, who lives in Arkansas, called Windber police to ask if he was in trouble. Windber police say she called after Michalides told her he'd been hired as a hit man but mistakenly shot the target's mother.
Michalides is jailed in Kentucky pending extradition and doesn't yet have an attorney to comment on his behalf.
