LAWRENCE, N.Y. (AP) — U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer says an alleged Iranian cyberattack on a small dam in the suburbs outside of New York City was a "shot across the bow" of the United States.
In 2013, hackers accessed the control system at the Bowman Avenue Dam, a small flood-control structure in Rye Brook, about 20 miles north of New York City. The intrusion prompted a federal investigation.
Schumer said Friday on Long Island that it "looks clear that the Iranians did it."
He confirmed that an indictment is expected to be handed down in the case from the U.S. attorney's office in Manhattan as soon as next month.
A spokesman for the Iran's mission to the United Nations did not immediately comment Friday.
