DENVER (AP) — Prison officials say Colorado theater shooter James Holmes was transferred to another prison partly because another inmate attacked him.

Newly released documents show the inmate pushed his way through an open door and hit Homes in the head during an October incident that also left a prisons employee injured. Holmes was not seriously hurt in the attack. But Colorado Department of Corrections spokeswoman Laurie Kilpatrick says it was among many reasons why officials transferred Holmes to a different facility in January.

Officials refuse to say where Holmes is located. The move, which sent him out of state or to a federal facility, was part of an exchange agreement with another prison.

The documents say Holmes was likely to be targeted since being convicted of killing 12 and injuring 70 in a Denver-area movie theater.
