The mother of one of two survivors of the random shootings in Kalamazoo says her adult daughter remains hospitalized.

Authorities have said the 25-year-old was with several children at an apartment complex's playground Saturday when a man approached them in a car.

She sensed trouble and put herself between the car and the children, telling them to run to their nearby home. Carruthers was shot multiple times.
