ROANOKE, Va. (AP) — Authorities say one person was killed and another injured in a fiery accident when a freight train hit a commercial truck hauling a flatbed trailer at a crossing in Virginia
Sgt. Jeffrey A. Johnson of the Roanoke County Police said it happened shortly before noon Monday. He said the truck was engulfed in flames when emergency personnel arrived at the scene.
Norfolk Southern said in a written statement that the person killed and the one injured were in the truck.
Johnson said late Monday that 56-year-old William Lineberry of Bluefield, West Virginia, was pronounced dead at the scene, and 22-year-old Johnny Collins of Abingdon was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.
The train traveling from Roanoke to Bluefield had three locomotives and 14 cars.
