SHAWNEE, Okla. (AP) — A central Oklahoma university is on lockdown after officials say an armed suspect fleeing police crossed onto the campus.

Kenny Day, a spokesman for Oklahoma Baptist University, says the Shawnee Police Department notified campus officials of the chase around 4:30 p.m. Sunday and the lockdown was immediately issued.

Day says police believe the suspect is armed but there were no immediate reports of shots fired on the campus. A sports facility near the university's baseball and softball fields where the suspect fled was evacuated.

The university, located about 40 miles east of Oklahoma City, is a Christian liberal arts school with enrollment of around 2,000.

A Shawnee police spokesman didn't immediately return a message seeking comment.
