DECATUR, Ga. (AP) — The latest about a man armed with a knife who is accused of holding 11 children and a woman inside a Georgia motel room for nearly five hours, keeping police at bay. All times local:
A county official says authorities are helping a woman and 11 children find safe housing after police say they were held in a motel room by a man with a knife.
Authorities say the woman's boyfriend, 36-year-old Korrie Thomas, held her and the children inside the room for about five hours before stabbing his own neck. He was critically injured.
He faces charges of false imprisonment and obstruction.
DeKalb County Child Advocacy Center Director Trenny Stovall says authorities believe the woman and Thomas are parents of 10 of the children. She says the oldest child is believed to be Thomas' brother.
None of the children were injured. Stovall says the children were attending school and living in the motel, but it's not clear how long the family was there or how many rooms they used.
