CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Police in North Carolina say one person was killed and a police officer suffered an ankle injury when shooting broke out as police tried to serve an arrest warrant at a Charlotte home.
A statement from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department says officers tried to serve the warrant around 9 p.m. Sunday when several people began shooting at them.
Multiple news outlets reported that police fired back and hit one person, who was later pronounced dead.
The names of the person killed and the injured officer haven't been released.
Police Chief Kerr Putney told reporters at the scene late Sunday that everyone in the home had come outside and were being interviewed to determine who had fired at the officers.
No charges have been filed.
