LEXINGTON, Va. (AP) — Authorities say a man accused of shooting at a deputy sheriff in Virginia has been found dead in the attic of a church.
News media outlets report that the body of 35-year-old William Evan Hall of Abingdon was discovered Monday afternoon, ending a manhunt that began shortly after midnight Saturday.
Rockbridge County Sheriff C.J. Blalock tells WSLS-TV (http://bit.ly/1SIKbYa ) that police are investigating a gunshot wound to Hall's head as self-inflicted. He says none of his officers fired shots inside the church.
According to Virginia State Police, Hall fired at least twice at a Rockbridge deputy during a weekend traffic stop before fleeing. The deputy was not injured.
The news media outlets report that schools were closed Monday because of the manhunt.
