ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — U.S. agents in Florida have arrested a Guatemalan judge who is also a top soccer official as part of the widening bribery investigation into soccer's FIFA organization.
FBI spokeswoman Kelly Lanmesser says 62-year-old Hector Trujillo was arrested Friday aboard a cruise ship at Port Canaveral, Florida. He is charged with racketeering in an indictment filed in Brooklyn, New York.
Trujillo is a judge on Guatemala's Constitutional Court and general secretary of Guatemala's soccer federation.
An initial court appearance is set for Friday afternoon in Orlando. Trujillo most likely would go to Brooklyn to face the charges. No attorney was listed for Trujillo to contact for comment on the case.
The indictment accuses Trujillo of taking bribes for sports marketing contracts, one from a Miami company called Media World.
Fifteen other soccer officials are charged in the latest indictment.
