JACKSON, Ga. (AP) — Authorities in Georgia say the mother of a 2-year-old who was fatally shot tested positive for marijuana the night her son was killed.
Jackson Police Chief James Morgan tells WSB-TV (http://bit.ly/1LjHC99) Choice Clay had marijuana in her system the night her son died.
Police told news media outlets Jayden Jamar Clay was shot Nov. 11 inside the family's home.
Police say the child and his twin brother were in a room together when the gun went off. Police say their mother was in the kitchen area at the time. Morgan says her other children have been placed in state custody.
Her boyfriend, 37-year-old Christopher Ashkins, is charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
It isn't clear whether they have attorneys.
The investigation continues.
