JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. (AP) — A Tennessee man is in critical condition after authorities say he was shot by a Washington County sheriff's deputy.
Tennessee Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Susan Niland tells local media that 29-year-old Aubrey Calhoun was shot Monday night. A woman called 911, reporting she was concerned about a person who was behaving oddly. The caller said the person had driven away.
Niland says a Washington County deputy located Calhoun at a church parking lot, and an altercation ensued that led to the deputy shooting Calhoun. The deputy was not injured.
Authorities have not said whether Calhoun was armed or what led to the shooting. The deputy's name or race has also not been released.
The bureau is investigating, per the request of District Attorney Tony Clark.
