NEW YORK (AP) — The NYPD is devoting more officers to traffic enforcement following a string of pedestrians killed by cars.

New York City officials say hundreds of officers and traffic enforcement agents will be part of the crackdown on dangerous driving through Nov. 22.

Mayor Bill de Blasio's office said Wednesday that the police would commit more than 12,000 extra enforcement hours a day to traffic safety.

De Blasio is trying to reduce the number of pedestrians killed by vehicles with his Visio Zero plan.
