BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — The Latest in the case of an 8-year-old Alabama boy accused of beating a 1-year-old girl to death (all times local):
The attorney for an Alabama woman charged with manslaughter in the death of her infant daughter says his client disputes allegations that the children were left home alone.
Birmingham police say 26-year-old Katerra Lewis and a friend left six children under the age of 8 unsupervised while they went to a nightclub last month and the 8-year-old boy beat the infant to death.
Attorney Emory Anthony says Lewis has asserted that the children were not left without adult supervision.
Police say a murder warrant was obtained for an 8-year-old boy accused of beating Kelci Lewis when she wouldn't stop crying. The boy has been turned over to the state Department of Human Resources. Police have said the boy's mother hadn't been charged as of Tuesday afternoon.
Lewis is expected to appear in court Nov. 30.
