MIAMI (AP) — Tropical Storm Kate is moving away from the Bahamas and is expected to remain well offshore of the East Coast.
The storm's maximum sustained winds Tuesday were 70 mph (110 kph). The U.S. National Hurricane Center says some strengthening is forecast and Kate could become a hurricane by Tuesday night.
The storm is expected to pass north of Bermuda. It was centered about 260 miles (418 kilometers) southeast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina.
