Figure in Wetterling case to be held on pornography charges

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A man called a person of interest in the 1989 abduction of an 11-year-old Minnesota boy has been ordered held on unrelated child pornography charges.

Fifty-two-year-old Daniel James Heinrich was charged last week with possessing and receiving child pornography after authorities searched his Annandale home in July for evidence in the disappearance of Jacob Wetterling.

Magistrate Judge Tony Leung (lee-YOONG') said Wednesday the amount of child pornography found in Heinrich's home and evidence of a longstanding fixation on boys justified holding him.

Much of the hearing involved investigators laying out their reasons for the search. Heinrich's attorney, Reynaldo Aligada, noted in questioning an FBI agent that Heinrich has never been prosecuted in Jacob's disappearance nor in the sexual assault of another boy a few miles away about nine months earlier.
