ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Albuquerque, New Mexico, police say the veteran officer shot by a man with a criminal past during a traffic stop last week has died.

Chief Gorden Eden, Jr. said in a statement that Officer Daniel Webster died at 2:30 a.m. Thursday. He had served on the police force for nearly nine years.

He was critically wounded in the Oct. 21 shooting outside an Albuquerque pharmacy.

According to police, 34-year-old Davon Lymon shot at Webster multiple times after being pulled over for riding a motorcycle with a stolen license plate.

Lymon's lengthy criminal history and those of men charged in other recent high-profile cases in New Mexico have led to widespread criticism about the state's justice reforms from law enforcement officials.

Lymon is in federal custody on firearms charges in connection with the shooting.
