LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (AP) — Authorities say a police officer responding to a 911 call shot and injured a 16-year-old armed with a knife.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said Thursday a man called Gwinnett County police around 3:40 p.m. Wednesday to report that his stepson was threatening his siblings. The bureau says the man called again when he got home to report the teen had a knife and had cut one of his siblings.
When an officer arrived, he was met by the stepfather and the teen.
The bureau says the officer backed away as he gave numerous commands for the teen to drop the knife and shot as the teen advanced toward him.
The teen was taken to a hospital where he was listed in critical condition.
The bureau is investigating the shooting.
