PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Brown University has formally undertaken what it calls the largest comprehensive fundraising push in the Ivy League school's history.
The $3 billion "BrownTogether" campaign began Friday night during a celebration at Pembroke Field. The university says the campaign will support education and research, campus infrastructure and student life.
Brown president Christina Paxson says the fundraising effort will be "transformative" for the school.
The campaign is designed to support a strategic plan for the university that calls for collaboration across various fields of study to address critical world issues.
Prior to the formal launch of the campaign, the school said early gifts helped facilitate groundbreaking for a new, $88 million building for the School of Engineering.
