SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) — Two Louisiana police officers have been placed on leave in connection with the fatal shooting of a suspect.

The Shreveport Police Department said in a statement that Cpls. Timothy Adgate and Ryan Owen were placed on paid leave after the shooting Thursday of 38-year-old Lawrence Green.

Cpl. Breck Scott said in the statement that Adgate was in full uniform when he responded to a call and spotted Green carrying a knife. Green refused to drop the weapon and charged at Adgate instead.

Adgate fired several times. Scott said Owen arrived on the scene as the shots were fired. Neither Adgate nor Owen was injured. Both officers called for medical aid for Green, who died later at a hospital.
