TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — Autopsies show an estranged couple and their three young children all drowned after their SUV plunged into a man-made Tempe lake.
The Maricopa County Medical Examiner's Office released its preliminary findings Wednesday.
Tempe police are investigating the case as a murder-suicide. They say the children's father deliberately drove the vehicle early Sunday into the water of Tempe Town Lake.
The medical examiner has ruled the death of 27-year-old Glenn Edward Baxter as a suicide while the deaths of Baxter's estranged wife and their children have been ruled as homicides.
Full autopsies still are pending.
Police say a handgun was found inside the SUV. But there's no evidence that it was involved in the deaths of Baxter, 25-year-old Danica Baxter, and their children — 1-year-old Zariyah, 2-year-old Nazyiah and 3-year-old Reighn.
