COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A federal judge has scheduled another bond hearing for a man charged with not telling investigators everything he knew about his friend who authorities say killed nine churchgoers in Charleston.
Joey Meek's second bond hearing is scheduled for Thursday afternoon in Columbia.
Defense lawyers are using a pretrial report on his finances and criminal history to ask the judge to lower the $100,000 bond set shortly after Meek was arrested Sept. 17. Investigators say Meek is charged with lying to law enforcement and failing to report what he knew about Dylann Roof's plans to go on a shooting rampage against blacks.
Authorities say Roof, who is white, killed nine black people at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church on June 17.
Meek has been in custody since his arrest.
