TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — The latest on the drowning of a vehicle containing a family of five at Tempe Town Lake in Tempe (all times local):

4:30 p.m.

Authorities say a man deliberately drove an SUV carrying his estranged wife and their three young children into an Arizona lake and that the five deaths are being investigated as a murder-suicide.

Police spokesman Mike Pooley says Monday that the investigation reveals that 27-year-old Glenn Edward Baxter took deliberate actions when he drove his family into Tempe Town Lake.

Witnesses and officers jumped into the lake just after midnight Sunday in a bid to rescue Baxter, 25-year-old Danica Baxter and their children ages 1 to 3.

Police say Glenn Baxter was in the driver's seat.

The children's great-grandfather says he believes the deaths weren't an accident.

Glenn Baxter's family members gathered Monday morning, but declined interview requests.

Police say five people in all died when the vehicle plunged into Tempe Town Lake earlier Sunday.

Witnesses and officers jumped into the lake in a bid to rescue 27-year-old Glenn Edward Baxter, his estranged wife 25-year-old Danica Baxter and their children ages 1 to 3.

Investigators have declined to reveal whether the deaths of an estranged couple and their three young children after their SUV rolled into an Arizona lake were the result of an accident.

The SUV plunged into Tempe Town Lake just after midnight Sunday and led to the deaths of 27-year-old Glenn Edward Baxter, 25-year-old Danica Baxter and their children ranging in age from 1 to 3.

Police say Glenn Baxter was in the driver's seat.

The couple married in April 2012 and separated several months ago.

The parents and the two youngest children were pulled from the vehicle and brought to a hospital, where they later died.

Investigators then determined the oldest child was missing, and divers later retrieved the child from the still submerged vehicle.
